The play-​off is a stage following the national qualifications and represents the last chance for competitors from all over the world to advance to the top tournament, Aufguss WM, i.e., the World Championship in show ceremonies. This phase is intended for those who did not secure a direct qualifying spot in the national qualifications. National qualifications are held from March to July in 16 countries, each allocated a limited number of direct advancement places in individual (1-​3 persons) and team (1-​3 teams) categories. Those who finish just behind the qualified advance to the play-off.

In total, 16 individuals and 16 teams make it to the play-​off, from which five from each category have the chance to obtain the last available spot at the world championship. The competition takes place in the format of show ceremonies, or theatrical ceremonies, where competitors present a ceremony lasting a maximum of 14 minutes. The performance must include a story with an introduction, a twist, and a conclusion.

Emphasis is placed on professionalism, hygiene, proper heat increase, towel-​waving technique, use of essential oils, as well as the selection of costume, props related to the story, acting performances, and light effects. This competition essentially represents a shorter theatrical performance in the unique setting of a sauna.
